Wright scores 23 points as George Mason beats Drexel 60-54 to advance to semis in CAA tourney
RICHMOND, Va. – Sherrod Wright scored 23 points to lead George Mason to a 60-54 win over Drexel on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament.
Bryon Allen finished with 16 points and six steals for the Patriots (18-13), who will play Northeastern in the semifinals on Sunday. Vertrail Vaughns scored 10 points.
Wright, who had six rebounds, shot 6 of 12 from the floor for George Mason, which snapped a two-game losing streak. He also made 11 of his 12 free throw attempts.
The Dragons (13-18) led by one point early in the contest, but fell behind by as many as 15 points to the Patriots.
Frantz Massenat led Drexel with 20 points and three blocked shots, but also had a game-high five turnovers. Daryl McCoy grabbed 12 rebounds and Damion Lee scored 11 points on 2-of-11 shooting.
