Oscar Tabárez’s Wife Silva Martínez was attacked by two men on Saturday.
Police in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo say the wife of the national soccer coach Tabárez was attacked with a corrosive liquid that burned her face and arms.
Police spokesman José Luis Roldan says authorities have not uncovered any clear motive or detained any suspects in the attack Saturday on 61-year-old Martínez, whose condition was unknown.
Police said earlier that Martínez was attacked by two men who threw the liquid at her as they passed by on a motorcycle.
Several days ago, authorities released a former female employee of Tabárez who was arrested in December for allegedly swindling $500,000 from the coach.
The employee's lawyer was quoted by a local newspaper as saying she had nothing to do with Saturday's attack.
Tabárez is known for taking Uruguay to the 2010 World Cup semifinals and to South America’s Continental championship in Argentina.
Currently, FIFA has ranked Uruguay as the fourth team.
