Toronto, Canada – NEW YORK (Reuters) - Darren McCarty, a forward who won four Stanley Cup championships with the Detroit Red Wings, announced his retirement from the NHL Monday.
"It was a great ride," McCarty, who played for the Red Wings for 13 seasons, said in a statement. "I appreciate what the game has given me." McCarty played in 13 regular season games in 2008-09, his final NHL campaign.
