Hamburg, Germany – Hamburg signed midfielder Rafael van der Vaart from Tottenham on Friday on a three-year contract.
Van der Vaart, 29, previously played for Hamburg from 2005-08. He scored 29 goals in 74 matches in his first stint with the club. Van der Vaart played the last few years with Tottenham, scoring 24 goals in 63 games from 2010-12.
"Returning to Hamburg is a dream," Van der Vaart said.
Capped 100 times for the Netherlands, Van der Vaart began his career with Ajax and has also played for Real Madrid.
"I am delighted that Rafael van der Vaart will play for HSV again," Hamburg coach Thorsten Fink said. "He will strengthen our team hugely."
