Roma out to end Lazio's hold on Eternal City

Rome, Italy – There is plenty on the line for both Lazio and Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on Monday as both sides are out for more than just bragging rights.

The two rivals are separated by three points in the top half of the table, and both have their sites set on a place in Europe next season.

Lazio sits three points clear of Roma in sixth place and could move all the way up to fourth with a win if other results go the right way.

A seven-point gap exists between Lazio and third-place AC Milan, but with eight games to play, now is the time to make a move.

Roma's hopes of reaching the Champions League are distant, but the club can still claim a spot in the Europa League, and more importantly, bring an end to Lazio's three-match winning streak in the Rome derby.

The first meeting this season between the two sides in November ended 3-2 in favor of Lazio courtesy of goals from Antonio Candreva, Miroslav Klose and Stefano Mauri.

Fiorentina hosts AC Milan in an important battle of top-four sides as the Viola trails the Rossoneri by six points, but can cut that deficit in half with a victory on Sunday.

Juventus holds a nine-point advantage at the top of Serie A and figures to claim three more points against last-place Pescara on Saturday, although the Old Lady will have an eye toward Wednesday's Champions League second leg against Bayern Munich in Turin as the Italian side tries to overturn a 2-0 deficit.

Second-place Napoli has won back-to-back games after a five-match winless run and the club hopes to keep that strong form going against relegation- threatened Genoa.

Bologna and Torino are separated by one point in the bottom half of the table and the two sides will meet up in the other contest on Saturday.

Inter Milan moved into fifth place with a 2-0 win over Sampdoria on Wednesday and the Nerazzurri will try to build on that result against Atalanta.

Also on Sunday, Catania entertains Cagliari, second-from-the-bottom Palermo travels to Sampdoria, Parma squares off with Siena and Udinese meets Chievo.
