GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany (Reuters) - Maria Riesch handed Olympic champion Lindsey Vonn only her second downhill defeat of the season when she won the final World Cup race in the discipline on Wednesday.

American Vonn, winner of six of the eight downhills, finished second behind the German and Anja Paerson of Sweden was third.

However, she still has a huge lead over Riesch with three races to go, all at Garmisch this week.
