The Tampa Bay Rays placed closer Kyle Farnsworth on the 15-day disabled list on Thursday with a right elbow strain.

Farnsworth, 35, went 5-1 with a 2.18 earned run average to go with 25 saves, 51 strikeouts and 12 walks last season.

A 13-year veteran, Farnsworth has spent time with the Chicago Cubs, Detroit, Atlanta, Kansas City and the New York Yankees.

In 776 games -- 26 starts -- the hard-throwing right-hander has a record of 39-56 and a 4.25 ERA to go with 52 saves, 892 strikeouts and 373 walks.

To replace Farnsworth on the roster, Tampa Bay recalled righty Josh Lueke from Triple-A Durham.
