The Tampa Bay Rays activated designated hitter Luke Scott off the 15-day disabled list Thursday.

He had been on the DL since June 14 with back spasms.

Prior to going on the DL, the 34-year-old Scott batted.220 with nine homers and 35 RBI in 51 games this season.

To open up a spot for Scott, the Rays optioned pitcher Chris Archer to Triple- A Durham. He lost both his starts after being recalled on June 20, giving up seven runs -- four earned -- and seven hits over 11 2/3 innings.
