Major League Baseball denied the formal protest filed by the Philadelphia Phillies concerning Sunday's game against the Florida Marlins.

The Phillies played the game under protest after crew chief Joe West reviewed and overturned a Hunter Pence double because of fan interference.

In the sixth inning, two men reached over the left field wall on Pence's long drive and touched the ball. It appeared that Marlins right fielder Bryan Peterson had a chance to make the catch.

After West called Pence out, Philadelphia manager Charlie Manuel was ejected for arguing the ruling, which prevented the Phillies from potentially scoring runs in a close game.

The Marlins won the game, 5-4, in 14 innings.
