WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Two-time Super Bowl winning coach Mike Shanahan is to take charge of the Washington Redskins, the NFL Network reported on Tuesday.

The report said Shanahan's son Kyle, who is currently the offensive coordinator of the Houston Texans, would also join the Redskins.

Shanahan, who won Super Bowls with the Broncos in 1998 and 1999, spent more than a decade with Denver before being fired in December 2008 after the team missed out on the playoffs.

The widely respected Shanahan had a brief spell with the L.A Raiders in the late 1980s and was also offensive coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers before joining the Broncos.
