The New York Mets activated pitcher Jeremy Hefner from the paternity list and optioned pitcher Collin McHugh to Triple-A Buffalo on Friday.

McHugh made his major league debut on Thursday and tossed seven scoreless innings against the Colorado Rockies. He gave up two hits while striking out nine and issuing one walk.

Hefner is 2-5 on the year with a 5.11 earned run average in 19 games -- seven starts -- for New York.
