Catania, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) - Alessandro Marti scored a first-half double in his debut for Fiorentina on Sunday, leading the club to a comfortable 3-0 win over Catania at the Stadio Angelo Massimino.
Matri, 29, joined Fiorentina on loan from AC Milan during the week after struggling to find regular playing time with Milan. He scored just one goal in 18 appearances for Milan, but quickly proved his worth on Sunday after Matias Fernandez put the visitors in front after 25 minutes.
Matri then made his mark in the match three minutes later to give his new club a two-goal margin before putting an exclamation point on the day with his second goal four minutes before the break.
Catania never threatened Fiorentina's goal in the second half and La Viola earned its 12th win of the Serie A season to remain in fourth place in the table on 40 points, three behind Napoli for the final Champions League berth. Catania, meanwhile, remains on the bottom of the table with 13 points.
Also in Serie A on Sunday, Mario Balotelli's penalty kick in the 81st minute handed Clarence Seedorf a win in his managerial debut as AC Milan collected a much-needed 1-0 victory over Hellas Verona at the San Siro.
Hellas Verona did well to keep Milan off the board for most of the match, but were undone when Alejandro Gonzalez caught Kaka in the box, leading to the penalty kick which Balotelli dispatched into the bottom right corner.
Hernanes' 90th-minute goal handed Lazio a 3-2 win over Udinese at the Stadio Friuli. Antonio Di Natale opened the scoring for Udinese eight minutes in after he converted a penalty kick and things became more difficult for Lazio when Ogenyi Onazi was sent off in the 54th minute.
Despite playing down a man, Lazio got back into the game in the 62nd minute via a penalty kick from Antonio Candreva. Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu gave the home side a 2-1 lead six minutes later, but an Andrea Lazzari own goal put the sides on level terms at 2-2 with eight minutes to play before Hernanes' winner handed the points to Lazio.
Giacomo Bonaventura's 68th-minute tally was enough to lift Atalanta to a 1-0 win over Cagliari, while Rolando Bianchi netted a brace as Bolgona earned a point in a 2-2 stalemate against Napoli.
Alessandro Lucarelli's 90th-minute tally was the difference as Parma came away with a 2-1 victory over Chievo, while Luca Antonelli scored the only goal of the day for Genoa in a 1-0 result against Inter Milan.
In Sunday's final Serie A fixture, Ciro Immobile and Matteo Brighi scored to lead Torino to a 2-0 victory over Sassuolo.
