Montpellier, France (SportsNetwork.com) - Wild card Paul-Henri Mathieu was Monday's lone main-draw winner at the Open Sud de France tennis event.

The oft-injured Mathieu was handling fellow Frenchman Nicolas Mahut, 6-1, 3-0, when Mahut retired on the indoor hardcourts at Arena Montpellier, citing the flu.

Mathieu is rewarded with a second-round match against top-seeded countryman and reigning Montpellier champion Richard Gasquet, who also captured this event, in Lyon, in 2006. Mathieu was the 2002 titlist, in Lyon.

Gasquet topped Benoit Paire in last year's all-French finale in Montpellier.

This week's titlist will collect $105,000.
