The Turkish Football Federation confirmed on Wednesday that Guus Hiddink has left his post as national team coach by mutual consent.

The 65-year-old ended his spell in charge of Turkey after he failed to guide the team to qualification for Euro 2012, having lost 3-0 at home to Croatia in the first leg before a 0-0 draw in Zagreb on Tuesday in the return leg.

This marks the second successive failure for Hiddink in qualification with the Dutchman having missed out on the 2010 World Cup as coach of Russia.

Hiddink had a great track record prior, having helped the Netherlands qualify for Euro '96 and the 1998 World Cup, while also coaching Australia in the 2006 World Cup and Russia in Euro 2008.

In addition to his exploits on the international level, Hiddink has spent time with Real Madrid and Chelsea among others, and has already been linked with big-money clubs PSG and Anzhi Makhachkala.
