The city of Hannover has named a street after Robert Enke, the German goalkeeper who stepped in front of a train 14 months ago.

Robert-Enke-Strasse is close to the home stadium of Hannover, Enke's club from 2004 until his death.

Stephan Weil, the northern German city's mayor, said Monday that it was unusual to rename a street so soon after someone's death.

Enke, who also played for Benfica and Barcelona and made eight appearances for Germany, suffered from depression and died on Nov. 10, 2009. He was 32.
