The Golden State Warriors will be without center Andrew Bogut for the remainder of the NBA Finals, the team announced Wednesday. Bogut doesn't need surgery on his left knee but will require 6-8 weeks to recover.
Bogut injured his knee in the third quarter of the Warriors' Game 5 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday. The initial diagnosis was a sprain, and Bogut had an MRI exam on Tuesday that revealed bone bruises. He reportedly traveled to Cleveland for Game 6, which is set for Thursday night, but his role will be a spectator.
The Warriors still lead the best-of-7 series 3-2, but the Cavaliers regained some momentum in Game 5 and could force a decisive Game 7 with a win at home Thursday.
Bogut averaged a career-low 5.4 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per game during the regular season, when he also contributed 1.6 blocks per game. During the postseason, he has averaged 4.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. Big men Festus Ezeli, Anderson Varejao and Marreese Speights will try to fill the void left by the 7-foot Bogut.
One player who will be in Golden State's lineup for Game 6 is forward Draymond Green, who served a one-game suspension in Game 5.
