Frankfurt, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) - Germany notched a doubles victory Saturday to grab an insurmountable 3-0 lead against Spain in a best-of- five Davis Cup affair in Frankfurt.

A tandem of one-time world No. 2 singles star Tommy Haas and Philipp Kohlschreiber bested a Spanish duo of Fernando Verdasco and David Marrero 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (7-9), 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 to send the three-time champion Germans into the quarterfinals in April.

In Friday's opening singles, Kohlschreiber whipped Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 and Florian Mayer outlasted left-hander Feliciano Lopez 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 5-7, 6-3 in 3 hours, 51 minutes on the indoor hardcourt at Fraport Arena.

Five-time champion Spain, led by rookie captain Carlos Moya, is playing this week without any of its' top-four stars -- Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer, Tommy Robredo or Nicolas Almagro.

Captained by Carsten Arriens, Germany will meet France in April.
