Rangers leading scorer Marian Gaborik is sitting out New York's game against Nashville because of a cut on his right leg caused by the skate of teammate Henrik Lundqvist.

Gaborik, who has a team-high 35 goals and 69 points, was ruled out by Rangers coach John Tortorella about two hours before game time Wednesday night.

Tortorella said Gaborik's status is day to day. He hopes the star forward, whom he called the Rangers' best player, will return Friday night at Pittsburgh.

Gaborik was injured Tuesday during a breakaway drill at practice when he tried to jump over Lundqvist, but collided with the goalie.

The Rangers have two games after Wednesday before the NHL breaks for the Vancouver Olympics. Gaborik is expected to play for Slovakia at the Winter Games.
