NEW YORK (Reuters) - China's national baseball team is practicing in Florida to get ready for the Asian Games in November, Major League Baseball (MLB) said Wednesday.

A group of 26 players will work out at the Vero Beach Sports Village through Oct 24 and play in Florida's fall instructional league, MLB said in a news release.

The Asian Games are set for Guangzhou, China, beginning November 12.

The Chinese will play 12 exhibition games against MLB Instructional League teams and another game against the Canadian Junior National Team.

Former Major League infielder Tom Lawless, who helped coach the Chinese team in 2007-08, will guide the squad along with former Baltimore Orioles left-hander Scott McGregor.

Major League Baseball has hosted the China team either in the fall league, minor league spring training or both since 2003.

Professional teams from Japan, South Korea and Taiwan have trained at the Vero Beach complex since the 1960s.
