There was plenty of concern about New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes' health after he departed with an injury from Game 4 of the NLCS, but he assures that he'll be ready when the World Series opens on Tuesday.
Cespedes, who left Game 4 in the second inning with discomfort in his left shoulder, is confident he'll be able to play in Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday despite his injury.
The 30-year-old outfielder received a cortisone shot in his shoulder on Thursday to try to decrease the inflammation in the area.
"Compared to the first day, I feel a lot better," Cespedes said Saturday through an interpreter. "I thought I could probably do a little bit more today, but I didn't want to push myself. I wanted to give myself another day before I started doing stuff again."
Cespedes could be joined by veteran infielder Juan Uribe on the Mets' World Series roster. Uribe didn't make the Mets' NLDS and NLCS rosters due to a chest contusion he sustained in September while diving for a groundball at second base.
The 36-year-old's status for the World Series remains up in the air, but he will accompany the team to Kansas City regardless of whether or not he is available to play.
Uribe has won two World Series championships in his 15-year career and is heralded for his veteran leadership in the clubhouse.
