Casey Mears' 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series year in review

Casey Mears enjoyed a solid 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season, finishing 23rd in driver points, his best result since 2009.

In his fifth full season driving for Germain Racing and the No. 13 entry, Mears posted his best numbers with the single-car team.

The Bakersfield, California native opened the season on a very high note, finishing an excellent sixth in the season-opening Daytona 500. As it turned out, that would be the top finish of the 2015 season for Mears, and the only time he would crack the top 10.

Clearly, Mears felt comfortable at Daytona International Speedway, the 2.5-mile Central Florida restrictor-plate track. When the Sprint Cup boys returned to Daytona for the second race in July, Mears again was highly competitive, coming home 11th in the GEICO-sponsored No. 13 Chevrolet.

And although it was a non-points race, Mears managed a fourth-place finish in the very first event of the year, the Sprint Unlimited at Daytona.

Other season highlights included a pair of 15th-place finishes in the first half of the season, one at Atlanta Motor Speedway and the other at Martinsville Speedway.

In the June race at Michigan International Speedway, Mears had another strong outing, coming in solidly in 13th place.

During the second half of the season, Mears' best finishes were a 16th in the first of two races at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and a 17th in the second Martinsville race.

In July, Germain Racing announced that both Mears and GEICO had signed multi-year contract extensions and will remain with the team through the end of 2018. Long-term partnership deals are always welcomed by race teams and it's clear that all of the parties involved with the No. 13 team are liking what they've been seeing on the track and off, which bodes well for continued success.
