Swansea, Wales (SportsNetwork.com) - Wilfried Bony signed a one-year contract extension on Wednesday that ties him to Swansea City until 2018.

Bony was signed prior to last season for a club-record fee of $19 million from Dutch side Vitesse, and he made a big impact in his first campaign, netting 25 goals in all competitions.

"It's great news for the club," Swansea manager Garry Monk told the club's official website.

"I've spoken a lot about what Bony has brought to the club not just on the pitch but off it as well.

"These types of players are ones that we do our best to keep at the club for a long time. But it's also important that we see commitment from that player towards the club, his teammates and the fans."

The Ivory Coast international represented his country at Brazil in the World Cup this past summer, and he has tallied four goals in 11 Premier League appearances this term.
