The Toronto Blue Jays signed infielder Edwin Encarnacion to a three-year, $27 million contract extension with a $10 million club option for 2016 Thursday.

Encarnacion, who was traded to the Blue Jays from the Cincinnati Reds at the trade deadline in 2009, is batting .295 with 14 doubles, 23 home runs and 58 RBI through 83 games this season.

Over 869 career games with the Reds and Blue Jays, Encarnacion has a .264 average with 180 doubles, 140 home runs and 450 runs batted in.
