Asdrubal Cabrera was named the American League co-Player of the Week, Major League Baseball announced Monday.

The Cleveland Indians shortstop got the 2011 season off to a scorching start, blasting three home runs and driving in eight runs in six games. He also scored five runs and had a .760 slugging percentage.

He has helped the team win seven games in a row.

Paul Konerko, the Chicago White Sox first baseman, was named the co-winner. Prince Fielder, the Milwaukee Brewers first baseman, won the award for the National League.

Cabrera, a Venezuelan native, matched his total home run total from all of last year. He also won the recognition during a week in 2008.
