HONOLULU – Allisha Gray scored 19 points on 7 of 10 shooting to lead No. 11 North Carolina over Hawaii 74-65 in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown on Sunday.
Gray had nine rebounds and was 3 of 4 on 3-pointers while Latifah Coleman was 4 of 4 on 3-point attempts and finished with 16 points.
Hawaii was led by Shawna-Lei Kuehu with 28 points, including 14 of 16 from the line. Destiny King had 13 points and 10 boards.
The Tar Heels (7-0) trailed by one with 6:11 left in the first but Gray nailed a pair of 3-pointers to take a 5-point lead and UNC led 39-31 at intermission.
The second-half lead reached as much as 13, but Hawaii (4-3) hung tough, as an 11-2 run brought the Rainbow Wahine to within four, at 62-58, with 4:23 left.
North Carolina made 8 of 10 free throws down the stretch to ice it.
