Obama Wiped Away Tears As He Thanked His Staff

President Barack Obama wipes away tears while speaking to staff after election victory.

After the election victory, President Barack Obama wiped away tears as he thanked members of his campaign staff and volunteers.

Obama's campaign released a new five-minute video of the president's Wednesday address to members of his staff at his Chicago headquarters. The short speech came a day after he won re-election.

The president spoke about his work as a community organizer in Chicago and told staffers and volunteers that they will do amazing things in their lives.

Obama became emotional when he told staff how proud he was of their work.

"What you guys have done means that the work that I'm doing is important. And I'm really proud of that. I'm really proud of all of you," Obama said and then paused to wipe away a tear, which was met by a warm round of applause as the team acknowledged their figurehead's gratitude.

"Over the last four years when people ask me about, you know, how do you put up with this or that or the frustrations of Washington, I just think about you. I think about what you guys are going to do. And that's the source of my hope, that's the source of my strength and my inspiration," he said.

Although only narrowly winning the popular vote, Obama had a sizeable victory where it mattered: in the competition for electoral votes.

He had at least 303 votes to Romney's 206.
