Grand jury indicts man in fatal stabbing of woman in front of her daughter on Mother's Day

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A Rhode Island man has been indicted on murder and other charges in the fatal stabbing of a woman in front of her daughter on Mother's Day.

State Attorney General Peter Kilmartin's office announced Thursday that 43-year-old Providence resident Germain Stansfield had been indicted on one count of murder and two counts of violating a restraining order.

Prosecutors say Stansfield fatally stabbed 42-year-old Christine Santurri in the back of her home this year on Mother's Day. Police say they searched for Stansfield after he made threatening comments to Santurri shortly before she was killed.

Santurri had a restraining order against him.

Stansfield remains detained without bail. His public defender didn't immediately return a message Thursday seeking comment.
