Court records show a man fatally shot after authorities said he lunged at an officer with a knife outside an Ohio airport tried to kill his mother in 1999.

The Cleveland court records say Hashim Hanif Ibn Abdul-Rasheed (hah-SHEEM' hah-NIHF' ee-bihn rah-SHEED') broke into his mother's house on Sept. 22, 1999, shot his mother and then stole her car.

The records released Friday say Abdul-Rasheed was arrested the next day in Medina County with two handguns.

Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH'-guh) County court records show Abdul-Rasheed was indicted in Cleveland on charges including attempted murder, aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery.

A court determined he was mentally ill and found him not guilty by reason of insanity in June 2000.
