Justin Bieber is fast replacing Lindsay Lohan for hitting headlines for all the wrong reasons. Reckless driving, paparazzi spats, turning up to appointments (like sold-out arena concerts) hours late, going half naked in public in winter weather, smoking suspicious cigarettes -- it has been quite the year,

This week it got even worse after an alleged altercation with his Calabasas neighbor turned into an LAPD battery investigation. Now we’re told by a source closely connected to the “Baby” pop prince that Bieber is absolutely determined to change his tune.

“Justin knows he’s done some not-so-smart things and he especially needs to clean up his driving,” the insider told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column. “He’s young, and when provoked, he reacts. But he knows this, and is determined not to become a Hollywood mess and he’s taking all the right steps to stay out of trouble. He’s building a good team around him and getting the right help.”

According to TMZ, Bieber, 19, has previously upset neighbors with his loud parties and erratic driving through the upscale California community, which allegedly came to a head Tuesday when one of the neighbors – an unnamed father of three in his forties – complained about his disruptive behavior, and the matter turned into quite the heated fight. TMZ reports that the man later told authorities that the music star was driving about 100 mph, and that he spat in his face and threatened to kill him during the altercation.

Steve Whitmore, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the situation remains under investigation, although no arrests have been made.

Speculation is still swirling as to whether the argument turned physical or not – but one person in Bieber’s camp claims that it was the neighbor who allegedly laid a finger on him.

We’re now also told by a source that Bieber is contemplating a move to a place with increased security (even more than his current double-gated $6.5 million residence), and that the most recent alleged neighbor blowout isn’t the first time he’s had trouble with the neighborhood.

“There have been ongoing issues,” continued our source. “People throw trash over his wall and all sorts of other stupid things.”

A rep for Bieber did not respond to a request for comment.
