Paula Deen compares herself to 'that black football player who came out’

One comment can ruin a career... 

Ever since news broke that Paula Deen admitted to using the N-word in a deposition last year, the once top TV chef has been trying to recover.

But the butter-loving Southern cook put her foot her in her mouth again during a recent People magazine interview, during which she compared herself to "that black football player who recently came out," referring to NFL prospect Michael Sam.

"I feel like 'embattled' or 'disgraced' will always follow my name," the chef told People. "It's like that black football player who recently came out. He said, 'I just want to be known as a football player. I don't want to be known as a gay football player.' I know exactly what he's saying."

Last year, Deen saw her empire crumble as she lost her series on Food Network and brand after brand distanced themselves from her.

“I was obsessed with the person America had confused me with – after I had lived my life so clean and open," she told the magazine. "When I woke up each morning, it was like my world was crashing down again,"

She turned to food for comfort.

“I made eight cakes in six days,” she recalled.

But the Twitterverse was not impressed with Deen's latest interview. Many turned to social media to express their disappointment that the chef had once again mentioned race.

Some users once again called the chef racist while others suggested that she avoid doing interviews in the future.

A rep for Deen did not immediately return FOX411's request for comment.
