CARACAS, Venezuela – Venezuela's Supreme Court has rejected a U.S. request for the extradition of a Venezuelan swimmer wanted in the United States for allegedly sexually abusing several minors.
The court says Simon Daniel Chocron cannot be sent to the United States because Venezuela's Constitution and laws strictly prohibit the extradition of the South American nation's citizens. It says Chocron will face justice in Venezuela.
Interpol requested Chocron's arrest in 2004 on charges filed three years earlier in Jacksonville, Florida.
Chocron is currently prohibited from leaving Venezuela and from giving swimming lessons to children.
The court said Monday that he will be tried in Venezuela's capital of Caracas.
