The office of South African President Jacob Zuma says he is taking a rest for a few days to recover from the demands of an election season and shaping his new administration.

The president's office said in a statement Friday that the 72-year-old Zuma will take a break from public engagements but will work from home.

Zuma has begun a second five-year term following the election victory last month of the ruling African National Congress party, which has dominated politics in South Africa since the end of white rule in 1994.
