Police in Haiti say a Brazilian military plane veered onto the grass next to a runway of the capital's airport after one engine caught fire as the aircraft attempted to take off. There were no injuries.

Airport police spokesman Max Justin says the fire erupted as the airplane was speeding down the runway Sunday and the craft ran into the grass. Fire crews put out the blaze. There were burn marks visible on the plane, and its front landing-gear had snapped off.

Justin says none of the 121 U.N. peacekeepers aboard the plane were injured.

Other flights were temporarily delayed at the Toussaint Louverture International Airport in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince.

A United Nations spokeswoman has not responded to calls seeking comment.
