Colombian officials say a French journalist remains unaccounted for in southern Colombia after combat with leftist rebels although five security force members who went missing with him have reappeared.

Romeo Langlois disappeared Saturday after troops he was accompanying on a counterdrug mission came under attack by rebels of the leftist Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC.

Colombia's Defense Ministry says three soldiers and a police officer were killed in the fighting.

The ministry says via a text message that four soldiers and a police officer initially unaccounted for had resurfaced. It says two are wounded.

France 24 television says Langlois is a 35-year-old freelancer and was on assignment for the network. He has also written for the daily Le Figaro.

The FARC recently pledged to halt all ransom kidnapping.
