CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — A military chief says two Australian soldiers have been killed and another two wounded by an improvised explosive devise in Afghanistan.

Lt. Gen. David Hurley told reporters Saturday that the four soldiers were taken to hospital after the explosion on Friday.

Australia has 1,550 troops in Afghanistan. The latest fatalities bring Australia's death toll there to 20.

The news comes as Australians go the polls in general elections. The government and opposition both support Australia's military commitment to Afghanistan.
