SAN LEANDRO, Calif. – Authorities say a woman accused of stabbing a 12-year-old boy in the back three times as she tried to rob a Northern California bank is expected to be charged with attempted murder.

The boy is in stable condition after surgery.

San Leandro police Lt. Robert McManus says 32-year-old Iyona Dzshae Hammond of Oakland went into a bank Monday, demanded money and then stabbed the boy. McManus said she was arrested with blood on her hands and scissors.

He says department policy prohibits releasing a motive.

Hammond is in custody and also expected to be charged with robbery at a court hearing Wednesday. She's accused of stealing money from a customer making a deposit.

A working telephone number for Hammond couldn't be found. The Alameda County Public Defender's Office says it's not currently representing her.
