SALT LAKE CITY – Salt Lake County Attorney Sim Gill has decided to charge a woman accused of dumping her newborn in the trash in an attempt to hide her pregnancy from her parents with attempted murder.
Gill said Friday he will files the charges against 23-year-old Alicia Marie Englert by end of the day Friday.
Englert was arrested last month after her newborn baby girl was found in a neighbor's trash can. Court documents show she told police she hoped the newborn girl would die and solve her problems.
Unified Police said Friday the baby, who was only 1-day-old when she was found, is now in fair condition.
Robert Englert said his daughter has a learning disability and has only recently begun to understand what she has done.
