The latest on a police officer being shot and three people being stabbed in Sunset, La. (all times are local).

9:29 p.m.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz (GEE-droh) says one woman is in critical condition and another in stable condition after bloody attacks that killed a third woman and a police officer.

The sheriff says 34-year-old Shurlay Johnson is in critical condition and Courtney Jolivette Riley is in stable condition.

Riley's husband, 35-year-old Harrison Lee Riley Jr., is under arrest at a hospital. Guidroz says Riley is being held for observation after complaining of a hurt rib.

Guidroz says Riley, who has an extensive criminal record, is accused of stabbing both women and Johnson's 40-year-old sister, Shameka Johnson, who died at the house, and of fatally shooting Sunset police Officer Henry Nelson before driving into a store a few blocks away and barricading himself inside.

8:45 p.m.

When an alleged gunman crashed his car into a convenience store, the store owners' 15-year-old daughter was in the office doing homework.

High-school sophomore Nini Truong says a man covered with blood got out of the car. She says people were trying to escape and the man "was shoving people around, asking where my dad was."

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz (GEE-droh) says 35-year-old Harrison Lee Riley Jr. is accused of fatally shooting 51-year-old Officer Henry Nelson and fatally stabbing 40-year-old Shameka Johnson. Johnson's sister, 34-year-old Shurlay Johnson, and Courtney Jolivette Riley, the wife of the man who is accused in the attacks, were also stabbed. Her age in not known.

Guidroz says Riley then drove from the house and ran his car into a store where he barricaded himself.

Truong says her parents were not in the store, and the man went into an office and closed the door.

Truong says she did not see any weapons.

She says, "I was just wondering what he wanted to do with my dad."

8:30 p.m.

A sheriff says two people are dead in southwest Louisiana, including a police officer responding to a domestic dispute.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz (GEE-drohz) identifies the victims as 51-year-old Officer Henry Nelson and 40-year-old Shameka Johnson. He says two other women also were stabbed: Johnson's sister, 34-year-old Shurlay Johnson, and Courtney Jolivette Riley, the wife of the man who is accused in the attacks.

He says 35-year-old Harrison Lee Riley Jr. drove from the house and ran his car into a store where he barricaded himself.

Guidroz says Riley has an extensive criminal record.

8 p.m.

The convenience store where a man barricaded himself after allegedly shooting a Sunset police officer, erupted in flames, but firefighters arrived at the scene and quickly extinguished the blaze. Black smoke poured from the building.

The car the alleged shooter drove into the building was still parked just inside the store, with remnants of the front, glass doors crashed in.

6:50 p.m.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz tells news outlets that a man is in custody after allegedly stabbing two people and shooting a police officer who responded in southwest Louisiana.

Guidroz did not identify the man, who drove his car into a nearby convenience store in Sunset, about 70 miles west of Baton Rouge, and barricaded himself inside. The sheriff says officers threw in tear gas and then stormed the JR Food Mart when the man refused to come out.

There was no word on the conditions of the officer or the two people who were stabbed.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobbie Guidroz says two people were stabbed and a police officer was shot when he responded to the stabbing in the southwest Louisiana town of Sunset.

Guidroz tells KLFY-TV (http://bit.ly/1hGVbJs ) the gunman then drove his car into a nearby convenience store and barricaded himself inside.

He says all three people in the store got out safely.

Guidroz says the SWAT team used tear gas, but the gunman would not come out. He says the man's brother was trying unsuccessfully to negotiate with him.

Lena Truong tells KATC-TV (http://bit.ly/1U77oIx) the man ran into the store and pointed a gun at her sister, Nini Truong, and asked where her father was. She says her sister told the man that her father wasn't there.

5:15 p.m.

Louisiana State Police say a police officer and two other people have been shot in the southwestern Louisiana.

State police Superintendent Mike Edmonson says troopers are on the way to the scene in Sunset, about 70 miles west of Baton Rouge, after getting a call around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Edmonson says the shooting reportedly took place near a convenience store. He says the officer was "responsive" but he has no details on the extent of the officer's injuries — or those of the other two people who were shot.

Tonette Thibodeaux of the Sunset police department confirms that an officer was shot but says she does not have any details.
