11:30 a.m.

A good Samaritan couldn't save a Las Vegas woman from what became a chaotic murder-suicide that left a family of five dead.

Police say a driver picked up the woman Wednesday night after seeing her screaming for help in the street near her home. Her husband chased them to a drug store two blocks away, where he dragged his wife into his car at gunpoint.

She eventually escaped and started running. Witnesses saw the man chasing her in his car before he opened fire.

Police say another bystander rushed to help her, but she was already dead with least one gunshot wound to the head.

The husband and their three children were later found dead at their apartment.

Authorities say a man chased and gunned down his wife outside a drug store and killed their three children at an apartment in Las Vegas before apparently shooting himself, leaving five members of a family dead.

Police Lt. Dan McGrath says it appears the father killed himself in a bedroom, where he and the kids were found after 10 p.m. Wednesday. The children ranged in age from 8 to 15, and it's not clear when they died.

Police say the woman was shot and killed about 7:30 p.m. as she ran screaming through the parking lot of a Walgreens store.

McGrath says a relative of the husband contacted police about 8 p.m. after getting a text message from the husband suggesting he was distraught and suicidal at the apartment.
