An aging mobster who two years ago beat charges in a legendary heist retold in the film "Goodfellas" has pleaded not guilty in New York to new charges.
The U.S. attorney's office in Brooklyn accused Vincent Asaro on Wednesday of committing arson in 2012, three years before his earlier arrest in the robbery of the Lufthansa cargo terminal at Kennedy Airport in 1978.
An indictment also names a grandson of Gambino crime family boss John Gotti as a defendant. He pleaded not guilty, too, and both were denied bail.
In 2015, a Brooklyn jury acquitted the 82-year-Asaro of charges he orchestrated the Lufthansa robbery with James "Jimmy the Gent" Burke. A turncoat mob associate testified that Asaro and Burke killed a suspected informant with a dog chain. The defense argued Asaro was framed.
