MILFORD, Pa. – Pennsylvania State Police had a special pair of handcuffs set aside and ready for the man wanted in the fatal shooting of one of their troopers, Cpl. Bryon Dickson.
They were Dickson's.
After the 38-year-old trooper was ambushed Sept. 12 outside his barracks, state police say the cuffs were kept at all times in the possession of an on-duty member at the barracks.
When Eric Frein (freen) was captured Thursday evening, a sergeant who had worked with Dickson used the trooper's cruiser to deliver the handcuffs to the arrest scene 30 miles away.
Police say he then slapped them on Frein, who was driven to the barracks in Dickson's cruiser.
Prosecutors say they will seek the death penalty against Frein, a 31-year-old survivalist police say had a grudge against law enforcement.
