FOREST ACRES, S.C. – The State Law Enforcement Division in South Carolina is investigating the shooting of a suspect by a police officer in a Columbia suburb.
The shooting was reported around 1:30 a.m. Thursday in Forest Acres.
SLED spokesman Thom Berry told local news outlets a Forest Acres police officer was called to investigate a noise complaint and found a person in a vehicle. Berry says the driver tried to strike the officer with the vehicle and the officer fired as the vehicle sped away.
Forest Acres Police chased the vehicle which crashed at a nearby credit union.
The driver of the vehicle suffered a gunshot wound and has been taken to a hospital. There's no word on the driver's condition. The officer was not hurt.
The race of those involved wasn't immediately available.
