The South Carolina lawyer for the family of a black man who was killed while running away from an officer is now representing the family of a black man killed during a confrontation with police in Louisiana.

News outlets report that state Rep. Justin Bamberg is part of a legal team representing the family of Alton Sterling. The 37-year-old Baton Rouge, Louisiana, man was killed Tuesday after he scuffled with two white police officers outside a convenience store.

Bamberg says the shooting reminds him of the death of Walter Scott, an unarmed black motorist killed by a white North Charleston officer last year. Bamberg represents Scott's family and says that, as they did with Scott's shooting, he's pleased that the U.S. Justice Department is investigating Sterling's death.

Michael Slager, the officer charged with shooting Scott, faces state and federal charges.
