Police say a man armed with a knife held nearly a dozen children and a woman inside a motel room for about five hours before he stabbed himself.
He has been taken to a hospital in critical condition. No one else was injured.
Police were initially called to the motel in Decatur because of a domestic assault. Authorities surrounded the motel near Atlanta when the man refused to leave a room and let the children go. They negotiated with him without success and eventually SWAT stormed the room.
Police say as they entered, they found 36-year-old Korrie Thomas had stabbed himself in the neck. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition Tuesday morning.
Police say Thomas is facing charges of false imprisonment and obstruction. Jail records didn't list an attorney for Thomas.
