PORT HURON, Mich. – Police say an apparently malnourished 5-year-old girl found at a southeastern Michigan home has died and three other children have been removed from the home.
Port Huron police responded Tuesday night to a report of an unresponsive child. The girl was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
An autopsy is planned for Wednesday afternoon, but police say a preliminary investigation indicates the girl was malnourished and had injuries consistent with child abuse. Two of the other children were placed in foster care; a third was malnourished and taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police say a 25-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man were taken into custody. The St. Clair County prosecutor's office will review the case for possible charges.
