Police say a Connecticut town official threatened to kill his wife and himself but didn't follow through because his daughter came home as he lay in wait with a loaded pistol.

An arrest warrant affidavit obtained by The Bulletin of Norwich (http://bit.ly/1RCKxQW ) says Bozrah First Selectman Glenn Pianka described the plot in a letter he mailed March 18 to his wife and her relatives. The couple was going through a divorce.

Pianka was charged last week with threatening and other crimes. He posted $20,000 bail and is due in court on April 20.

Pianka didn't immediately return a message Tuesday from The Associated Press. He told The Bulletin the incident was a "highly personal family matter" and said the newspaper was "out of line" for reporting his arrest.
