Perjury charges added against 2 in case of inmate who died after being shocked with stun gun

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Perjury charges have been added against two former sheriff's deputies facing trial in the case of a Georgia inmate who died after being shocked with a stun gun while strapped in a restraining chair.

The Savannah Morning News reports (http://bit.ly/1K8tG1w ) new indictments returned Wednesday charge Cpl. Jason Kenny and Cpl. Maxine Evans with lying to a grand jury about the death of 21-year-old Mathew Ajibade (ah-jih-BAH-dee).

Kenny and Evans already face a trial Oct. 5 on involuntary manslaughter charges.

Ajibade died at the Chatham County jail after fighting with deputies Jan. 1. Prosecutors say Kenny shocked him with the stun gun.

Evans and jail nurse Gregory Brown are accused of failing to check on Ajibade and falsifying paperwork to say they did. They also are charged with manslaughter.

Attorneys for the ex-deputies did not return phone calls.
