ROCKY MOUNT, Va. – Virginia state police say an officer in the town of Rocky Mount shot a man who rammed multiple police cars while trying to get away.
The shooting occurred Saturday night. Police said in a statement that officers tried to stop a vehicle, but the driver refused to stop and tried to get away.
Police say the officers tried to block the vehicle's path, but the driver started ramming the vehicles. A Rocky Mount police officer fired at the vehicle. The driver got away but was stopped again.
Police say the driver was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Police did not specify whether the driver was wounded by gunfire. A woman riding with him wasn't hurt.
Rocky Mount is about 25 miles south of Roanoke.
