New York State Police said one of its troopers is in critical condition after his patrol car was hit on Wednesday by another vehicle on a highway.
Police said Trooper Craig Foglia, 45, had pulled over a vehicle on Interstate-86 in the Steuben County town of Campbell, about 90 miles south of Rochester. Foglia was sitting inside his cruiser when it was hit from behind by a pickup truck.

The truck was driven by Kenneth Aukett, 78, of Westmont, New Jersey, police told WBNG. Aukett experienced non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash demolished the back of the trooper car, which then hit the car Foglia pulled over. The two people in that vehicle were not injured.

Foglia, a 13-year veteran, was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Police announced on Thursday that the trooper was in critical condition after undergoing surgery.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
