New York authorities are investigating whether the killing of a woman found outside an apartment building and the nearby death of a man struck by a train are linked.

Nassau County police say the woman was found dead in Farmingdale on Long Island just before 8 p.m. Tuesday. Police wouldn't say how the woman was killed. She is believed to be in her 60s.

Police say the second victim was fatally struck by an eastbound Long Island Rail Road train about 25 minutes later. He was described as a man in his 30s. The tracks are about 1,000 feet from the homicide scene.

A building resident, Nick Gordon, tells Newsday he saw a trail of blood on the stairs that continued to the front door.
